Head, Heart, and Guts: An experiential anatomy study: 9/22-10/13

from $35.00
Class Option:

Sept 22 - October 13 | 6-8 PM
In Process Community Art Space | Beech Grove, Indiana
Ages 18+

Instructor: Janna Meiring

Artmaking is a way we connect our inner world with the outer, and the body is both the vessel and vehicle for that expression. As the archive of all our lived experiences, the things we perceive, sense and process—micro to macro—happen through the material of the body.

No matter what the subject matter of our art is, tuning into the material of our individual bodies offers additional texture, light, color, shape, and meaning to explore within in our creative practice.

Like a figure-drawing class, this workshop trains the artist’s eye to respond to what is “seen.” But rather than outward observation, this series turns the artist’s eye inward. Janna guides every-day level movement activities to awaken deeper sensing and perception of our own anatomy, allowing for creative insight, image, and expression to easefully surface.

Using provided materials, participants respond to their experiences by creating several free-form sketches. Each class ends in reflective dialogue with others on what they discovered.

There is no pressure or expectation on how you engage and is accessible to all experience levels and abilities.

This offering is part of a new series:

Each class is 2 hours long, and can be taken as a complete series, or any one as an individual class.

  • Tuesday, September 22nd 6pm-8pm (S1: Head)

  • Tuesday, September 29th 6pm-8pm (S2: Heart)

  • Tuesday, October 6th 6pm-8pm (S3: Guts)

  • Tuesday, October 13th 6pm-8pm (S4: Whole)
